The German American Cultural Society came into existence in 1998 with the German Dramatic Society of Olneyville and the Eintracht Singing Society of Pawtucket joining together to form the new organization. Both of the forming groups had been created over 100 years ago by German emigrants to serve the needs of the German community. Both clubs were chartered in Rhode Island as cultural/social societies. Since that time they have served two purposes: the first was to help emigrants integrate into American society and the second was to further understanding by the general population of the rich variety of German costumes, traditions and culture.

The German Dramatic Society was founded by people who were interested in the dramatic tradition of Germany and plays in German were presented as late as the 1940’s. The Eintracht Singing Society, from the beginning, had a strong musical emphasis in having an outstanding male chorus until about the mid 1950’s. Along with the music the Pawtucket club, within a few years of the dedication of its hall, developed a Turner league or gymnastic organization and this activity continued into the 1950’s.

The German American Cultural Society has a German language school which runs 2 12-week sessions during the year where beginners, grammar and conversational classes are offered.

The Performance Organizations are:

Schubert Chor - A mens acapella chorus that performs at the two Liederabende and other events. Singing the most difficult music at the Sängerfest competition, the Schubert Chor has taken 1st prize many times.

Lorelei Chorus - A womens chorus. More recently formed than the Schubert Chor, the Lorelei also performs at the two Liederabend and other events. They also have been "in the money" most of the time since their formation, winning many 1st prizes at the Sängerfest.

SGTV Alpenblumen - our Bavarian dance group performing authentic Bavarian folk dances some of which go back a 1000 years. They perform frequently throughout New England and neighboring states

If you have a love of German culture either by birth or education and would like to participate in any of the performance organizations (they always welcome new members) please come to any rehearsal.

The Alpenblumen Dancers practice every Tuesday evening from 8-10PM. For singers, Monday from 7:30-9:30PM is practice for the mens Schubert Chor and by Lorelei. The Lorelei begin at 7:30. All practices take place at:
